The best macaroni and cheese ever! Grandpa's famous recipe never lets the kids down (that's big kids too).
There's been a few changes to the way it's cooked, but the end result is the same. Best to eat with Heinz Ketchup.
Ingredients
5 Cups raw macaroni
2/3 Cups margarine
1/2 Cup flour
4 Cups milk
4 Cups grated cheddar cheese
2 Tbsp prepared mustard (or 1 dry)
1 Tbsp Worchestershire sauce
2 Cups bran flakes (Kellogg's works best)
Preparation
Melt margarine in a large batter bowl in the microwave
Mix in flour with a fork to create a roux
Cook in microwave on high at 30 sec intervals until roux is boiling, stirring between
Add milk and mix well with fork
Return to microwave for 2 min on high
Stir and continue cooking in microwave at 1 min intervals until sauce thickens to likeness
Pre-heat oven to 350° F
While cooking sauce, bring 6L of water to a boil and cook the macaroni al dente
Drain noodles and place in a greased 4 qrt. casserole dish
Crush bran flakes into crumbs in a Ziplock bag
Stir 3 cups of cheese, Worchestershire sauce, and mustard into sauce until smooth
Mix sauce with noodles in casserole dish, sprinkle top with bran flake crumbs and then the 1 cup of leftover cheese
Cover and bake for 40 min
